For over 300 years, London's main market for
fruit and vegetables operated at Covent Garden. Increasing congestion led
to its being moved to a new site south of the river in 1974.
When the barrowboys and the vegetables moved out the site was revamped as a modern shopping area |
If you compare the photos of the old market 9above) and the new market (below) you can see that the same halls are now used by cafes and stalls that sell a variety of items like clothing and jewelry
