At nearly 800 feet, Stow is the highest town in the Cotswolds. It's Royal Charter was granted in 1107, and it has been an important Cotswold cross roads for a thousand years. Eight roads intersect here, so you will not have too much trouble finding Stow. Like so many other Cotswold town, it owes its original prosperity to wool
The twice a year Stow Fair is still held in May and October, and the annual Stow Horse Fair is a spectacularly large event when the town sees thousands of horses being bought and sold.
Round the picturesque square, pubs and tea rooms, shops and hotels jostle for space. And running off the square are various narrow alleys and courts that contain unspoiled old buildings.
