7 days in Southern Britain

Here is how to enjoy a week touring in Southern England. The important thing is to try not to do too much, otherwise you will not remember anything. We have suggested some two night stays to avoid the feeling of continually rushing and moving on. Assuming that you start in London, what better place to spend you first night than Brighton, home of the original "romantic" weekend, of the Royal Pavillion and Brighton Pier. Spend you first day sightseeing in Brighton.

Next morning drive on to Winchester, the old Saxon capital of England with its fine cathedral, before stopping in the New Forest for the next two nights. This gives you the whole of the next day to visit Stonehenge, probably Britain's greatest historic site, but also badly managed. You can also visit Salisbury, and wander back through the New Forest to the Dorset Coast.Dorset Coast.

Day four involves a drive through South Devon and the South Hams into Cornwall. If you stay somewhere like Newquay you will be fairly central for exploring the next day, when you can drive to Land's End and St Ives.

Your last two days are driving to Bath taking in the North Cornwall coast and Exmoor on the way. You will then arrive late in bath , ready to explore it the next morning, before driving back to London via the Cotswolds and Oxford
